Nature Morte

It is rare to find dead insects in nature; usually the insect leftovers, if there are any, vanish rapidly in the food chain. The Nature Morte (or Natural Causes of Death) exhibits a broken chain where the tiny cadavers are exposed embalmed by a mortician and placed on silk and satin in lavishly furnished coffins.

The small caskets are made of former jewellery boxes, eyeglass cases and packages of branded luxury items. Bouquets of dried flowers highlight the beauty and fragility of insects. Details of the funeral assemblages can be inspected with magnifying glasses provided on the showcase vitrines.
