Aurora Nonelis

The spectrum line path is made of coloured plastic filaments. They are pieces of Nonel shock tube detonator wires used in underbelly explosions for blasting the bedrock. The filaments get dumped into the sea together with the exploded rock material.

The cities of Helsinki and Espoo have built a new underground line, which required extensive tunnel excavations. The rests of the exploded rock were shipped into the sea and the plastic substance laid in bits and pieces between the gravel. As a result, Helsinki seahores are now awash with this peculiar plastic waste.
