ALIEN INVADERS:
Nest Sculptures

The main ingredients of the nests are the partly bleached filaments of colour-coded shock-tube detonator wires applied in initiating underbelly explosions. When the city of Helsinki expands, excavated rock material gets dumped into the sea together with bits and pieces of plastic wire used in blasting the bedrock.
The wires come in coded colours which indicate the transmission speed of the electrical initiation impulse. They are manufactured in yellow, red and pink, although other colours, such as orange, light blue and green, are used as well. Bleaker colours testify that some of the tubes have stayed outdoors long enough to become bleached by the sun.
