GOTLAND'S LITHOLOGICAL SOCIETY:
The Reef Atlas
The Reef Atlas sets out to imagine the fossil flora of the ancient seabed using Gotland museum's limestone floor claddings as a starting point.
In mapping the fossil imprints found on the floor slabs of the Gotland museum's staircases, Närhinen attempted to re-trace outlines of the tropical coral reefs by means of ink drawings drafted on translucent sheets of paper.
The depictions coded with scandic letters and numbers will be displayed in the staircase, and the indexes will be printed on vinyl and placed directly on the floor to allow the audience to locate the correspondent fossil imprints in the museum staircase.
